Trapt changes it up with "Contagious" tour

Trapt will play The Machine Shop on Friday.

FLINT, Michigan -- Hard-rock act Trapt seems to have one main game plan for ensuring the success of its latest album, "Only Through The Pain." And that's touring, touring and more touring.

Last summer, the California band joined the much-hyped inaugural Cruefest, where L.A. rockers Motley Crue played father figure to modern acts such as Papa Roach and Buckcherry. When the high-profile fest wrapped up on the East Coast, Trapt quickly segued into a headlining tour, mapping out dates that led the band right back to the Pacific. Next up was the Jagermeister tour, where Trapt was joined by Hinder and Rev Theory.

Now, following a rare and relatively short break, the members of Trapt are well-rested as they head out on their newest jaunt, known as the "Contagious" tour.

But despite their status as official road warriors, the group isn't above a bit of burnout. As the band prepares to hit the Machine Shop on Friday, drummer Aaron "Monty" Montgomery said Trapt was inspired to switch it up a bit this time around.

"It's strange how you get in ruts as far as certain songs go," the drummer said during a rehearsal in Burbank. "So we're changing the set list up. Because it's better when the band is energized, too. So we started jamming some new songs, and we'll add some older songs we haven't done in a while."

But aside from the set list, it's business as usual for the ever-busy rockers. Montgomery and his bandmates feel that there's plenty of gas left in the "Pain" album, and they have the schedule to prove it.

"We'll probably go out for the rest of the year," the drummer said. "We've had a three-month break, so we're ready to go.

"We're planning on working this record as long as we can, anything to raise awareness that Trapt is out there and has a new record out. And we'll do it as long as we need to."
