Paloma Faith tells sold-out audience she was “hideous” after giving birth
Paloma told the sold-out audience that becoming a mother is 'the most life-changing thing ever'
PALOMA Faith has opened up about her weight battle after becoming a mother for the first time, telling concert-goers that at her lowest point she thought she was "hideous."
The singer spoke out about her birthing experience during her headline show at London's O2 Arena last night.
Speaking to the sold-out audience, Paloma revealed how becoming a parent for the first time was "the most life-changing thing ever."
She revealed: "I really, really believed that I was going to have this perfect, natural birth. But everything went to s**t.
"I was like 'Yeah, I've got a good pain threshold' but nine hours with no pain relief and stood over a bed, I was like, 'Can I have some drugs now please?'"
Paloma joked: "All my dreams of being this bohemian beauty just fizzled. I was instantly the contemporary woman who can't handle it. But I'm aware that I would've died in Victorian times had I gone through what I did."
Paloma told the 20,000 strong audience about how she handled the changes in her body following the birthing process.
The 36-year-old explained: "Afterwards I beat myself up for a long time because I put on three stone. I thought 'You're hideous, how can you go in the public eye?' and everyone told me you lose a stone after birth, but no, I was three stone after the birth so I must've put on four stone. I was really worried about it and I was really horrible to myself and I lost a lot of it but I've kept some as a souvenir."
She teased: "I just thought, I'll keep a bit of that to remind myself."
Earlier in the night, Paloma joked about taking time away from the music industry.
She gushed: "I just wanted to thank everyone because it's been a while since I've played and I'm so grateful that you've been patient in waiting for me while I was on maternity leave from work.
"And as like most women, I was worried that when I finished my maternity leave there wouldn't be a job left at the office for me."
She joked: "Those other replacements you've been watching while I was away, well they've left the stage too!"
