HOMER, LA (KSLA) - A 16-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy are dead after a fire destroyed a home in Claiborne Parish Wednesday morning.

Firefighters were called to the 200 block of Turner Road just before 2:45 this morning where they learned the two children were unable to escape.

The Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office says a family of six — including a grandmother, mother, and four siblings ranging in age from 3 years old to 20, were in the mobile home when the fire started.

Firefighters found the two bodies feet apart in the bedroom in which they had been sleeping. There is evidence they tried to get out, according to fire officials.

Investigators say one of the family members noticed smoke when they were going to bed, and discovered flames on the wall near an electrical outlet they had recent issues with.

The official cause of the fire has not been determined.
