Ireland used to be Eurovision superstars but lately it's been a bit disappointing.

Having won the competition a massive SEVEN times, Ireland are officially the most successful country in Eurovision Song Contest history.

Their heyday came in the 90s when they took home the title an extraordinary four years out of five from 1992 to 1996 - they missed out once in 1995 - but since then, they haven't had the best track record.

In the last 10 years the Emerald Isle has failed to qualify for the final three times, and come last twice. X Factor stars Jedward produced their most successful entry with Lipstick in 2011 which hit eighth position.

In 2013 Ryan Dolan's Only Love Survives suffered the embarrassment of coming in last - though it avoided NIL POINTS shame by getting five points.

And last year Can-Linn and Kasey Smith had a disappointing performance, and so this year there's Molly Sterling and her song Playing With Numbers.

Well, she's no Carol Vorderman, I'll say that, but never has playing with numbers sounded so good.

Traditionally singers named Molly don't have the greatest luck at Eurovision (sorry, it's still too painful) but this could be the year that a Molly triumphs.

Hauntingly beautiful voice, check. Depressing video, check. Heartbreaking subject matter, check.

Anyone who's just been through a recent break-up, or weirdly trying to buy a house, will probably be reduced to a snivelling wreck by this, but it's so good.

It's emotional, powerful, brilliantly subdued and a step ahead of Ireland's usual efforts.

Molly deserves to have Ireland's most successful Eurovision song in the last decade.
