Clean up for the Brushy Creek Campground has started, but cleaning up will be a little difficult, because the number of tree’s that fell down has created more damage to the campsite that meets the eye.
Brushy Creek Campground near Lake O’ The Pines has been completely damaged while the campground was at full capacity of campers.
238 people were there when the storm hit.
Matt Seavey, Acting Lake Manger at Lake O’ The Pines says,”now there’s a lot of hanging limbs and a lot of broken off trees and a lot of up rooted one’s still haven’t fallen, so we just want everyone to stay safe.”
But the storm claimed one life.
40-year-old Mary Pinney of Mt. Belvieu Texas was killed when a tree fell on her family’s tent.
Her husband was seriously injured and taken to an area hospital, along with a handful of other people with minor injuries.
Luckily, they’re three children made it out without any injuries.
More than 200 tree’s fell down, some landed on campers, tents and vehicles.
Seavey says, “we didn’t have a lot of mid stem snaps or anything like that, it was just that the whole tree just fell over, because of the saturated ground.”
The National Weather Service says the damage is from straight line winds at an estimated 80 to 90 miles per hour.
One man who lives across the street from the campsite says he’s thankful he didn’t get the same amount of damage.
Eddie Springer a resident who lives in area says, “God did spare us from a lot damage, and I got a lot big trees on my property, a lot of homes. 12 cabins and for me to just lose one limb I was blessed.”
Eddie springer owns Abigail home, which is a place for mentally and physically challenged men.
“There is a lot lives here that God spared and for no one to be even scratched or touched, you know it was a blessing.”
Brushy Creek Campground is closed until they are able to make repairs and make the park safe again.
