VEVAY, Ind. (WKRC) - A group of elementary students at Jefferson Craig in Vevay, Indiana started a robotics club last year.

In year two of the new program, the group made it not only to a state championship but they also got to go to a worldwide robotics tournament with kids from all over with robots they made themselves.

"They love to be a part of this team and feel like they're a part of something," said club advisor Brian Grigsby. "A lot of these kids don't make it to other teams, so robotics is very special to them they feel like they're a part of that family."

At first, the kids thought they were good, but didn't think they would place at a world championship against other students who've been doing it a lot longer than them.

While they were competing in that tournament, the town actually held a live stream so everyone back home could see them in action.

Before the school year ends, the team is already thinking of ideas for next year's robots.

Grigsby hopes his kids' passion for math and science stick with them for a brighter future.

"I wanted to be an engineer before robotics, but now I really want to be an engineer because of robotics."
