Edna Arneson

Edna Arneson age 97 of Fargo, North Dakota passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018. She was born on July 14, 1920 in Brooklyn, New York to Anton Julius and Gunda Annette (Eliassen) of Tonsberg, Norway.

Edna grew up on Staten Island in the small town of Eltingville and graduated from Tottenville High School in 1938. After high school she attended Spencer Business and Secretarial School in New York. Her early career was spent working at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and International Business Machines in New York City.

Edna met her husband Stanley Elmer Arneson (Yankton, South Dakota) during a USO dance when he was stationed on Staten Island with the U.S. Coast Guard. They were married on July 3, 1943 and remained married for 72 years until his death on October 15, 2015. Edna and Stan made their first home on South Oxford Street in Brooklyn before returning to Eltingville. They had two children and in 1954 they moved their family to Fanwood, New Jersey.

Edna and Stan retired to Paulinskill Lake, New Jersey in 1969 and in 1983 they moved to Greenville South Carolina to continue their retirement. In November 2012 they moved to Riverview Place in Fargo, North Dakota.

Edna enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, knitting, and traveling. She was an enthusiastic volunteer and supporter of her church.

Edna was a kind and gentle person who was loved by many friends and family. She is survived by her daughter Sheryl E. (Dr. Jeffrey) Harvey, Fargo, North Dakota; 3 grandchildren; Allison A. (Scott Wilderson) Mukilteo, Washington; Thomas A. Harvey, Fargo, North Dakota; Elizabeth N. Harvey, Fargo, North Dakota; 2 nephews Richard Morhous (Cynthia Smith), Seattle, Washington; Mark A. Ingebretsen, Des Moines, Iowa; a niece Karen M. Case of Hartford Connecticut; and good friend and cousin Marit Lonmo, Oslo, Norway.

Edna is preceded in death by her husband Stanley; son, Douglas Stanley Arneson, of San Diego, CA (D. 2016); her parents Anton and Gunda Ingebretsen; 4 brothers; Alf George (Eva Thompson) Ingebretsen, of Clearwater Florida (D. 1964); Arthur Steen Ingebretsen, of Copake Falls, New York, (D. 1992); Walter Steen Ingebretsen of Eltingville, New York. (D. 1915); Walter Steen (Alice Johansen) Ingebretsen of Cresskill, New Jersey (D. 2013); and cousin Bodil Bunaes (Born Johnsen) of Oslo, Norway (D. 2011).

Visitation will be from 12:00PM-1:00PM, followed by the memorial service at 1:00PM, Monday, April 30th, 2018, at Riverview Place Chapel in Fargo, ND.
