Helen Newman and Julian Jackson took over The White Lion at Knighton in 2016, and have turned it around in the time since.

"At that point the pub was pretty much a dead business, a far cry from its hey day when as a busy bar and vibrant restaurant," Julian said.

"We are very protective of our 17th century bar with its roaring fires and real ales and we are committed to its continued vibrancy and wonderful atmosphere."

Helen and Julian try to work with local farmers, and grow their own vegetables during the summer months.

In October they were approached by The AA who told them that they were to be included in the Good Pub Guide.

The pub's atmosphere, menus, food quality and wine list were cited as key features in the guide.

"We think a brilliant achievement and one for which we are very proud," Julian said. "We think that it is just reward for a wonderful and committed Staff, all of whom commit maximum effort in making The White Lion at Knighton such a great pub."
