Tinley Park PAWS Hit with Parvo

Staff asking for donations of towels and bleach.

TINLEY PARK, IL — P.A.W.S. Tinley Park, 8301 W. 191st. St. has closed its dog section to the public, after reports of parvovirus inside the shelter.

The canine parvovirus (CPV) infection is a highly contagious viral illness that affects dogs. The virus manifests itself in two different forms: intestinal, which is characterized by vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss, and lack of appetite (anorexia), and cardiac, which attacks the heart muscles of very young puppies, often leading to death. The majority of cases are seen in puppies that are between six weeks and six months old.

"Once we have confirmed that no other dogs have been exposed to the virus, we will reopen," the shelter announced via its Facebook page.
