Sandvig, Otto Franklin of Roseville. Age 87 died peacefully at his home with his wife, Maxine, at his side, June 17, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. Otto was born February 8, 1928 in Eau Galle Township, St. Croix County, Wisconsin. His parents were Otto H. Sandvig, b. 1885, St. Croix Co, WI, d. 1961, St. Paul, MN, and Martha Christine Anderson, b. 1888, St. Croix Co., WI, d 1936, St. Croix Co., WI. Otto was proud to be 100% Norwegian. He was drafted into the US Army on March 10, 1953 during the Korean Conflict. He taught Diesel Engine Repair at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia and was discharged as a Sergeant on March 09, 1955. Upon return from the service he worked for his brother Loran. Otto was employed from 1957 until 1990 at Borchert Ingersoll Inc, a distributor of construction equipment. During that time he held many positions, starting as an assistant field service manager. He was an officer of the company, holding positions as a credit manager and treasurer. Otto enjoyed working and would have continued for many more years had the company not closed. Otto had a knack for carpentry skills so it was natural that he was a HABITAT FOR HUMANITY volunteer for 12 years with a group from Roseville Lutheran Church, later called "Bud's Group." He also volunteered with a Tuesday work group at Roseville Lutheran and helped build the climbing wall at St. Croix Camp. He will be lovingly remembered for his traveling tool box and fixing whatever needed fixing for numerous friends and family. Otto's passion for genealogy led him to discover many relatives and he was instrumental in organizing many family reunions and a heritage trip to Norway in 1998 where they visited the original farm of his grandfather near Vaaga. Included in their many travels Maxine and Otto traveled to Norway twice. He was a member of the Gudbraqndsdal-slaget. Otto's many hobbies led him to building a cabin and sailing on Pipe Lake near Grantsburg, WI. Otto enjoyed traveling to many parts of the world and wintering in Arizona. Otto enjoyed being a godfather to 4 nephews: Barry Garfield, Bruce Bailey, Greg Huberty, and Darrel Werner. Otto lovingly enjoyed spending time with all of his numerous nieces and nephews including those of his first wife, Joyce. He had a sparkle in his eye for all of his extended family near and far. Otto left a legacy of many caring and close friends. He was loved by all who knew him. Otto was preceded in death by first wife, Joyce Beatrice Garfield, Nov 6, 1929 - Jul 04, 1983, they were married November 03, 1950, Spring Valley, WI. Otto and Joyce enjoyed a wonderful marriage until her sudden death. On April 29, 1989, Otto married Maxine Rennemo-Sandvig and they recently celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary. Otto was preceded in death by all seven of his siblings Hylber (Margaret) Sandvig, Ordean (Myrtle) Sandvig, Loran (Louise) Sandvig, Norine (Lloyd) Huberty, Marguerite (Arnold) Geiger, Lylak (Charles) DeLong, and June (Douglas) Werner. Also preceded in death by all his first cousins. Otto is survived by his loving wife, Maxine Rennemo (Petrowske) Sandvig. Survived by extended family, stepdaughter Denise (Randy) Petrowske Carlson, Sturgis, SD and stepson, Kelly (Patsy) Petrowske, Waskish, MN, Kelly's children, Jonathan Petrowske of Waskish, MN and Melinda (Jon) Theodorakakos - Petrowske and their children Petra and Talia of Plymouth, MN. Otto is survived by his sister-in-law, Margaret (Hylber) Sandvig and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. A Celebration of Life for Otto will be held at Roseville Lutheran Church, Roseville, MN on Monday, June 22. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. and service at 11:00 a.m. with luncheon to follow in the church social hall. Interment will take place at a later date at Poplar Hill Cemetery in the Rock Elm area of Wisconsin, where his first wife, Joyce is buried. In lieu of flowers the memorials are preferred to be given to the Roseville Lutheran Church music department.
