The Troy Arts Council is, once again, bringing a variety of arts entertainment to the Troy and Pike County area. Excellent performers of jazz, Broadway and classical music will be among the artists who take center stage at the Claudia Crosby throughout the TAC’s 2016-2017 calendar season.

Dr. John Jinright, TAC presenter chair, said this calendar season will be outstanding from its opening act to its closing.

“The Troy Arts Council will kick off its exciting calendar of events on September 20 with the Annie Moses Band,” Jinright said. “For more than a decade, the band has been inspiring and entertaining audiences around the world with their distinctive style of music, which is a blend of folk and classical.”

Jinright said the Annie Moses Band is a talented group of songwriters, singers and musician who combine technical skill with exhilarating showmanship.

In October, the TAC will bring Lynn Trefzger to the stage.

“Lynn Trefzger is a ventriloquist/comedienne,” Jinright said. “She has a trunk full of zany characters and they have traveled with her across the country. Trefzger has many voices and she is riotously funny. She has appeared on ABC, TNN, A&E and Lifetime.”

In December, the TAC will once again bring Shelia Jackson and Friends to the stage of the Claudia Crosby Theater for the popular Holiday Concert.

“Shelia always brings together some of the area’s most talented musician and singers for the Holiday Concert,” Jinright said. “This concert is our most attended concert. We appreciate Shelia’s commitment to community. The Holiday Concert has become a holiday tradition in Troy and Pike County.”

The TAC’s January event will feature jazz singer and composer, Rondi Charleston.

“Rondi Charleston is a Juilliard-education jazz vocalist,” Jinright said. “In collaboration with Lynne Arnale, she has four albums to her credit. She is also an Emmy and Peabody award-winning television journalist and investigative reporter for Primetime.”
In March, the Vienna-based Janoska Ensemble will present “Classical Music with a Twist.”
The ensemble is composed of four brothers who have appeared at the world’s leading festivals. Janoska infuses classical music with jazz, gypsy, tango, Latin and a dash of pop.

“Roll Over Beethoven” featuring pianist Julian Gargiulo will be the TAC’s April entertainment presentation.

“Gargiulo has been billed as a charismatic virtuosos who can deliver a joke,” Jinright said. “He plays classical masterpieces and delivers them with emotion and incredible precision.”

The TAC’s 2016-2017 Entertainment schedule will close with a May performance by the Southeast Alabama Community Band. The band members come from all walks of life that all continue to enjoy playing music.

The TAC calendar of events is supported by the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Tickets for all events are $20 general admission and $5 for students with ID. The performances are at the Claudia Crosby Theater on the campus of Troy University. Showtime is 7 p.m.
