The Washington Times is bolstering its award-winning Commentary section, announcing the hiring of former Weekly Standard writer Ethan Epstein as deputy opinion editor and welcoming back former Times’ writer and author Monica Crowley as a senior opinion columnist.

With four full pages every day in the newspaper and a large presence online at WashingtonTimes.com, the Times’ Commentary section has established itself as a go-to source of analysis, book reviews and political and cultural commentary for conservative readers across the nation and around the world.

Mr. Epstein, who will work with Opinion Editor Charles Hurt, had been an associate editor at the Weekly Standard since 2012. A graduate of Reed College, he previously worked as a freelance journalist for a number of top Washington news outlets, as an editor at the business consulting firm MasterPlans, and as a staff writer for the Shanghai-based CHaINA Magazine. His coverage of Asian financial issues was enhanced by his near-fluent Mandarin and Korean language skills.

“The addition of Ethan to the editorial page will bring a fresh perspective and deep experience to an already outstanding team,” said Washington Times President and Executive Editor Christopher Dolan. Mr. Epstein’s international journalism experience “brings a reporter’s perspective to editorial coverage, a unique and potent combination.”

Ms. Crowley is returning to the Times editorial page after having long contributed guest opinion pieces and serving from 2014 to 2016 as the section’s online opinion editor. A graduate of Colgate University with a Ph.D. in international relations from Columbia University, she has been an influential presence in print, on the radio and on television, known for her hard-hitting, conservative take on the news.

Currently, Ms. Crowley is a senior fellow at the London Center for Policy Research and a contributing editor for Spectator USA and The Telegraph.

“Monica’s voice has always been respected and clear on the issues of the day,” Mr. Dolan said. “We are happy to have her back here on The Times’ editorial page and look forward to getting her take on today’s dynamic political environment.”
