Work to Begin on University CCRC in Georgia
An Oct. 19 groundbreaking ceremony has been set for the construction of The Spires at Berry College, a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) at liberal arts school Berry College in Rome, Georgia.
As planned, the project (pictured above) will bring about 300 residents to the college campus, and open in 2020. The Spires at Berry College will also have opportunities for intergenerational engagement and interaction.
Colorado Project to Reach Construction Milestone
A topping-out ceremony will take place on Oct. 11 for The Ridge Pinehurst, a $150 million Pinehurst Senior Living development under construction in Lakewood, Colorado.
As planned, the community will have 222 independent living apartment homes, 96 assisted living apartments and 42 memory care apartment homes. Amenities include an on-site health and wellness center, indoor and outdoor pickleball courts, an indoor heated pool and hot tub, resistance pool, art studio and theater room, hair salon and multiple dining venues.
Project partners include Shaw Construction and Lantz-Boggio Architects. Construction of the community is slated to wrap up in the fall of 2019.
Illinois Life Plan Community Breaks Ground on New Rehab Wing
Smith Crossing, a life plan community in Orland Park, Illinois, broke ground on Oct. 2, for a new $24 million rehab wing.
Plans for an addition of 46 private suites to the existing 16-bed, short-term rehab wing. The expansion will also have common areas that include a rehab gym, private treatment and therapy rooms, offices and a dining room. The new two-story building will connected to the west side of the community’s main building via a passageway.
BBVA/Compass Bank will finance construction for the $24 million project.
Work Begins for Affordable Community in New York
Construction has started for a 48-unit affordable housing complex in Bethpage, Long Island.
The community, Oyster Bay Gardens, is being developed by Adults and Children with Learning and Developmental Disabilities (ACLD), and will have 36 affordable apartments for residents aged 62 and older. The community also will have a dozen units set aside for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The project, which was designed by Fusion Architecture, will include a laundry room with washers and dryers on each floor and a common area on the first floor with a community room, computer room, exercise room, storage room and lounge. ACLD is overseeing the development and construction of the nearly $19 million building.

Sagora Senior Living Opens Independent Living Community in Texas
Sagora Senior Living has opened its newest senior living community, the Viera Independent Living, in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Once fully complete, the community will have 12 independent living cottages, 75 apartments for assisted living and 23 memory care units. Amenities include a fitness center, pub, private salon, theater and aquatics programs.
With the opening of the Viera, Sagora now owns and operates 38 communities.
Crescent Announces Opening for Utah Property
Crescent Senior Living has announced the grand opening of a new assisted living and memory care community in Sandy, Utah.
The community is registered with the Eden Alternative, and has amenities such as a game room, theater, bistro, all-day dining a spa and a library.
One-Bedroom Assisted Living Apartment Homes Now Available at Washington Community
Penrose Harbor, a senior living community in Gig Harbor, Washington, is now offering to residents 36 one-bedroom assisted living apartments.
The apartments come with access to services and amenities that include a day spa, workshop and walking trails.
Affordable Community in California Undergoes Facelift
WNC, a provider of investment, asset management and development services, has successfully renovated Heritage Villas, a 143-unit affordable housing community for seniors in Mission Viejo, California.
To help fund the project, WNC provided about $11.2 million in low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) equity.

— Local officials have given the go-ahead to a proposed 20-unit, age-restricted community in Clarkesville, Georgia.
— An age-restricted community with 257 units is in the works for Chaska, Minnesota.
— A developer has its eye on Lafayette, Louisiana, for the construction of a new 258-unit community.
— A proposed $50 million, 183-unit senior living community could come to Sarasota, Florida.
