Police say three charged with drug trafficking in Louisa, Ky.

The Louisa Police Department said three people are facing charges following a drug trafficking investigation in which food stamps were exchanged for drugs.

Clarence "Curtis" Earle, 51, of Louisa was charged with trafficking a controlled substance, 21 counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and two counts of fraudulent use of a benefit card, according to a news release from the police department. James A. Mullett, 33, of Louisa was charged with conspiracy to trafficking a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with physical evidence and fraudulent use of a benefits card. Christopher P. Mullett, 37, all of Louisa was charged with conspiracy to trafficking a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, tampering with physical evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said officers searched a home in the 80 block of Fourth Street in Louisa about 7:20 p.m. Wednesday. Police said they found several Suboxone packages, prescription pills, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, cash and firearms. Police said the home belonged to Earle and he allegedly accepted food stamp cards in exchange for drugs.

Police said the case will be presented to a Lawrence County grand jury to determine if charges will be filed against others who they believe were involved. The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office assisted in the investigation.

All three suspects were taken to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.
