Nikki Bella addresses rumor that breakup with John Cena was a publicity stunt

The third season of the Bella Twins’ reality series Total Bellas will premiere Sunday night, just a month after Nikki Bella and John Cena announced the couple had called off their engagement and broken up.

Cena and Bella had dated since 2012, and Cena proposed in the ring at WrestleMania 33 in a made-for-pay-per-view moment, but the timing of the breakup has caused some people to question whether the split is all a stunt. Cena has since professed his love to Nikki Bella on NBC’s TODAY, and both are hopeful they can reunite in the future.

When asked about the possibility that the breakup was a hoax, Nikki Bella told Entertainment Tonight that the rumors have affected her.

“I think sometimes people don’t realize how you could affect them. It’s kind of like when we try to talk to cyberbullies and tell them ‘you have no idea how you’re affecting people.’

I’m a human being. I’m a human being that literally went through a breakup. Everyone’s been through a breakup, and think of how we feel. Mine has been blown up, and then people all started telling me I’m faking it, so you’re now saying that my heartache is fake and that makes it even harder. It’s just like… what can I do right?”

As has been teased in clips leading up to the season premiere, it seems like the dynamic between Cena and Bella changed after Brie Bella and Daniel Bryan had a baby daughter. Cena has publicly stated he doesn’t want children, but Nikki Bella had a change of heart following the birth of her sister’s baby.
