DANBURY Aug. 10, 1938 - Sept. 15, 2018 Barbara Ann Nelson Mabe, 80, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, September 15, 2018, at Universal Healthcare in King. An 11 a.m. graveside service will be held Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at Bob Mabe Cemetery off Highway 8 North, Danbury. A Stokes County native, Barbara was born August 10, 1938, the daughter of Howard Oliver Nelson and Eva Simmons Nelson. She was of the Primitive Baptist faith and was a lifetime farmer and homemaker. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Gillis Mabe, daughter Wanda Cope, granddaughter, Ashley Mabe, three sisters, Crystal Chisolm, Lelia East and Gretal Simmons. Barbara is survived by children Karen Annette Baker, Vincent Mabe (Cindy), adopted son Bruce and daughter Margaret; grandchildren Alex, Jason (Danielle), Shannon, Corey (Amy), Dustin (Amanda); nine great-grandchildren; and many special friends. The family received friends Monday, September 17, 2018, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the home of Vincent and Cindy Mabe. She loved cooking for friends and was the best biscuit maker in Stokes County. The family would like to thank all of her caregivers for the tender, loving, and compassionate care shown to their mother. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 129 Veteran's Drive, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041. Howell-Nelson Funeral Service is honored to serve the Mabe family.
