A preview of a future LSU-Alabama quarterback showdown played out Wednesday night in Alabama’s Class 7A state championship game.

In that, at least, the Tigers finally topped the Tide.

LSU commit Peter Parrish completed 5 of 9 passes for 78 yards and a score while running 11 times for 100 yards and another touchdown to help Central-Phenix City defeat Thompson 52-7, according to AL.com.

Alabama commit Taulia Tagovailoa, younger brother of current starting quarterback Tua, went 7-of- 11 for a career-low 44 passing yards and an interception while getting sacked four times. AL.com noted that Tagovailoa briefly exited the game in the first half and stayed on the sidelines for good once Thompson went down 38-0.

Tagovailoa, though, is the higher-ranked recruit according to 247Sports.com’s composite ratings. The high-4-star recruit — who has visited LSU but is still committed to Alabama — slots as the fifth-best pro-style quarterback in the 2019 class as well as the No. 6 player in Alabama.

Parrish also check in as a 4-star prospect, but he’s pegged at No. 13 among both in-state players and dual-threat quarterbacks across the country. He was one of four Central-Phenix City players to score a rushing touchdown in the state championship game, alongside Arkansas commit Amontae Spivey.

Wednesday’s game likely has no bearing on how each player will fare in college, but LSU fans are certainly happy with the result.
