Video Tour Of Flagtown FD's Newest Custom Engine

The Flagtown Fire Department will be hosting a Wet Down on Saturday, June 10 to christen their custom-designed new Engine 36.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Flagtown Fire Department will be celebrating the delivery of their brand new custom-designed Engine 36 with a Wet Down on Saturday, June 10.

The Engine was delivered in February and replaced a 1996 Smeal engine. It cost roughly $712,000 to build this custom engine.

Complete with all the bells and whistles, the fire department created a special committee that spent about two years designing the entire engine with KME.

"This engine is built to last for 20 years," Lt. Nick Patuillo told Patch. "It has plenty of room for expansion."

Every nook and cranny of the engine is utilized to house hundreds of feet of hose, tanks, tools, generators and other equipment. The engine is ready to handle fire suppression, motor vehicle accidents and firefighter rescues as the department is a Rapid Intervention Team (RIT).

Inside, the engine can hold 750 gallons of water and pump up to 2,250 gallons per minute from a hydrant, lake or stream.

To celebrate and dedicate the new engine, Flagtown is inviting fire departments from all over the state to come out to the wet down.

An apparatus judging will take place at 9:30 a.m. at the Hillsborough Municipal Building, 379 South Branch Road. Multiple awards will be given out to departments based on how far they travel, how they decorated their engines and more.

The main event will begin at noon at the Flagtown Firehouse at 20 Equator Ave. A pastor will bless the engine and there will be a live band and DJ, food and beverages, games and rides and T-shirts and mugs for purchase.

Flagtown Fire Department is an all volunteer department and is always looking for new members to join. Locals are welcome to come out to the department any Thursday night after 7 p.m. to learn more about volunteering.
