A new Walkersville neighborhood will feature taller, more modern-style town houses thanks to a zoning text amendment approved by the town Board of Commissioners Wednesday.

The commission's 3-1 vote ups the maximum building heights allowed in Walkersville’s high-density residential zones to 45 feet, 10 feet higher than the current limit in the zoning code. Commissioner Donald Schildt cast the sole vote of opposition, explaining that he saw no reason to change a requirement that had long been "on the books." Commissioner Gary Baker was absent from the meeting.
