A Belle Rose man was killed in a crash this afternoon on La. 308 north of La. 70 when a car hit the bicycle he was riding, State Police said.

State Police said Acquindas Brown, 22, of Plattenville was traveling south on La. 308 in a 2015 Chevrolet Impala at a high rate of speed when he struck Terry Sims, 64, who was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Brown's car went off the road to the right and then crossed the centerline when he over-corrected his steering, police said. His car overturned, ejecting his unrestrained front passenger, 22-year-old Malik Mills of Napoleonville.

Brown, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Prevost Hospital in Donaldsonville by Acadian Ambulance Service, police said. Mills suffered moderate to severe injuries and was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge by Acadian.

A second passenger, Jawauntez Patterson, 22, of Napoleonville, was restrained in the right rear seat, suffered minor injuries and refused treatment on scene.

Impairment is not suspected as a factor in the crash; however, toxicology reports on Sims and Brown are pending.
