Chile Issues Final Technical Report of the 2018 Transmission Expansion Plan
The National Energy Commission issued the Final Technical Report containing the Annual Transmission Expansion Plan for the National Electric System, corresponding to the year 2018, analyzed and proposed in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 20,936.
This Expansion Plan 2018 contemplates a total of 68 works , with an estimated investment total of USD 1,464 million , which are separated between new works and necessary extensions in the National and Zonal Transmission systems.
For the National Transmission System , 13 expansion works are presented, for an approximate total of USD 1,264 million (10 extensions of existing facilities, for USD 76 million and 3 are new works, for USD 1,188 million approximately).
Regarding the Zonal Transmission System , 55 works are presented, with an approximate total investment of USD 200 million (46 works are extensions of existing facilities, for USD 105 million and 9 are new works, for USD 95 million approximately).
Regarding the New HVDC Transmission Line project, the National Energy Commission did not receive any comments that question or request the elimination of its execution proposal, focusing those interested in requesting clarifications to the work conditioning mechanism.
The Executive Secretary of the National Energy Commission (CNE), José Venegas , highlighted the importance of this New HVDC Line which will be a fundamental part for the use of the solar potential of the north and for the development of renewable energies in general .
"At this moment, there is no doubt that the future of the electricity system will be based on this type of energy, which will also be vital to progress in any process of decarbonisation of the energy matrix." Process in which the Ministry of Energy coincides, the National Electric Coordinator, the companies and the community, as has been expressed in the conclusions of the decarbonisation table, "said Venegas.
"All the studies seen in the Decarbonisation Table show that there can not be an efficient and safe decarbonization without that line or similar installation, which is precisely in the expansion plan of the transmission, proposed by the CNE," said Venegas.
This Final Technical Report comes after a participatory process established in the Law, in which 24 Users and Interested Institutions submitted to the CNE 213 observations to the Preliminary Technical Report of the Expansion Plan of the Electric Transmission, issued by the Commission on November 14. past.
As established in the Transmission Law, after the publication of the Final Technical Report that contains the Annual Expansion Plan for Transmission 2018, Users and Interested Institutions have 15 working days to present their possible discrepancies before the Panel of Experts. If there are no discrepancies, the Commission must issue the Final Technical Report.
