Belarusian athletes highly motivated for UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Minsk

MINSK, 17 January (BelTA) – The Belarusian athletes are highly motivated to show high results at the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Minsk, Chairperson of the Belarusian Cycling Federation Natalia Tsylinskaya said at a press conference dedicated to the UCI Track Cycling World Cup that is due to start on 19 January, BelTA has learned.

“Our athletes will try to show their best before the home crowd. The athletes are highly motivated to perform to the top of their abilities. We will evaluate and make some conclusions after the world cup,” she said.

Belarus' First Deputy Sport and Tourism Minister Vyacheslav Durnov noted the importance of holding the event a year and a half prior to the 2019 European Games. “For the organizers the upcoming world cup is a good opportunity to check the readiness before the start of the Second European Games which include competitions at the velodrome,” he said.

He stressed that the year 2018 will be rich in international competitions. Belarus is to host 70 of them.

According to Director of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Minsk Aleksei Ivanov, the organizers expect high interest from fans. “It is a big test for the national federation and the Minsk cycling club, especially in the run-up to the European Games,” Aleksei Ivanov noted.

Belarus' medal hopefuls are Roman Romanov, Evgeny Korolek and Inna Savenko.

About 300 athletes from 36 countries will compete in the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Minsk. The event will include 17 medal events in 9 sports.
