Author Dr. Stephen R. Covey has died.

The author of the popular book series "The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People"  passed away at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Provo, Utah early Monday morning. He was 79.

Covey died from injuries from a bicycling accident on steep foothill roads that occurred in April.

Covey's "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People," was published in 1989 and has sold more than 25 million copies in 38 languages.

Covey was listed on Time magazine's 25 Most Influential Americans in 1996.

"We extend our heartfelt gratitude for all of the love and prayers that have been showered upon Stephen and our family from all around the globe over the past several months," the family wrote in a press statement.

Covey also wrote three other books that have all sold more than a million copies. He is the co-founder of Utah-based professional services company Franklin Covey. As the founder of the Covey Leadership Center, he merged with Franklin Quest in 1997 to form Franklin Covey Co, a company focused on leadership, strategy and individual effectiveness.

In 2010, Covey joined the Utah State University Huntsman School of Business as a professor and was named the first incumbent of the Jon M. Huntsman Presidential Chair in Leadership.

Covey received a doctorate from Brigham Young University and an MBA from Harvard after graduating from the University of Utah. He has also been awarded eight honorary doctorate degrees and is the author of the best-selling nonfiction audio in history for "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People", according to his website.

Stephen R. Covey had 9 children and 52 grandchildren and passed away surrounded by his wife, Sandra, and each of his children.
