Salinas Man, 25, Sentenced To Life In Prison For 2 Murders

Brad Azcona got life in prison without the possibility of parole for the two murders, and multiple life terms for two attempted murders.

SALINAS, CA — A 25-year-old Salinas resident who was found guilty of two first-degree murders in November was sentenced today to life in prison, Monterey County prosecutors said. Judge Pamela Butler sentenced Brad Azcona to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the two murders, as well as multiple consecutive life terms for two attempted murders.

Azcona's felony charges stemmed from cases that took place between August and October 2015. Police finally arrested Azcona after a 12-hour standoff on Oct. 8, 2015, during which he hid in the crawlspace of a Salinas
home.

The first homicide occurred on Sept. 8, 2015, when Azcona shot and killed 16-year-old Carlos Robles near Duran Street in Salinas. Robles died after suffering four gunshots, and another man was shot in the head after Azcona fired five to seven shots at him.

The second homicide happened in the same month, when Azcona got into a fight with 44-year-old Ramon Herrera in Salinas' Chinatown. He shot Herrera nine times and killed him.

Forty minutes before the second homicide, Azcona had struck another victim with his gun while trying to steal the victim's tablet computer.

He was also sentenced 28 years and four months for assault with a firearm, attempted robbery, negligent discharge of a firearm, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He had previously served a prison sentence for a robbery in 2012, Butler found.

The Salinas Police Department and the Monterey Country District Attorney's Office jointly investigated the case.
