Ronald Koeman sends message on Twitter after losing on penalties, Everton fans respond

Everton drew 1-1 with Spanish side Real Betis in the Dresden Cup this afternoon, but crashed out after losing on penalties.

The Toffees had lost 2-1 to Dynamo Dresden on Friday evening, but looked to be heading towards a win early on against Real Betis when Aissa Mandi’s own goal put Everton in front.

However, German Pezzella’s equaliser sent the game into penalties, where Everton eventually lost after misses from youngsters Conor Grant and Kieran Dowell.

Everton have two more pre-season fixtures to come against Manchester United and Spanish side Espanyol, with Ronald Koeman preparing his side for the start of the Premier League season.

Koeman, who arrived from Southampton earlier this summer, has been attempting to learn about his squad with four friendlies over the last week, and he sent a message to supporters on Twitter after today’s game.

The Dutchman admitted that he was happy to see a number of players for the first time in a pre-season game, with Koeman making his mind up on whether some players are first-team material or not.

After sending the message, Koeman received a number of responses from Everton fans, many of whom were calling for new signings to be made quickly ahead of the Premier League kick off.

Fans believe Koeman has a huge job ahead of him, and called for him to bring in two midfielders and a striker, whilst urging him to move on fringe players such as Arouna Kone…
