Stareable, which bills itself as the “largest community of web series creators,” will be hosting the inaugural Stareable Fest on July 20-22 in Tribeca, N.Y. The event aims to celebrate “all things web series and independent television, focused on taking creators’ careers to the next level.”
Stareable describes the festival as a “half-industry marketplace, creating face-to-face connections between independent filmmakers and decision makers at major platforms, and half-creator convention, with workshops and panels about how to be a more effective filmmaker.”
HBO will be sponsoring a pitch competition at Stareable Fest. The pitch event will feature a judge from Comedy Central and the head of development at PBS Digital.
There will also be a keynote speech from Bernie Su of Pemberley Digital, the Emmy-winning creator of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries and Emma Approved .
The membership platform Patreon will be giving a panel on online monetization. According to its website, the panel will cover how to navigate “the digital monetization landscape as well as how creators can leverage their content and their communities to build more sustainable independent careers for themselves.”
In addition, the stars of IFC’s new comedy series Frank & Lamar will participate on a panel.
Executives from Vice, Bustle and OATH will talk about how to make TV a more representative medium.
