GAINESVILLE, Texas (KXII) -- A man is dead after being involved in a multi-vehicle crash in Gainesville Tuesday morning.

David Parton, 78, was riding his motorcycle on Grand Avenue when a car hit him from behind.

The car then hit another car and a semi truck before crashing into a utility pole.

Parton was flown to a Plano hospital where friends said he died Wednesday afternoon.

Parton made national news in 2015 when he was arrested for feeding stray cats in Gainesville. He chose to spend nine days in jail rather than pay $900 in fines.

"He was a part of Gainesville for a long time and had a lot of friends that cared about him," friend Jerry Antrim said.

An 82-year-old woman was also hurt in the crash and police do not think alcohol was involved.
