Barbara Norman-Maddock

Barbara C. Norman-Maddock, 102.5, Grand Forks, ND passed away on Monday, September 24, 2018 at her residence at Parkwood Place, Grand Forks in the presence of the family.

Barbara Claire Norman was born on March 3, 1916 the daughter of Paul V. and Frances (Kolodgy) Norman in Grand Forks. She attended St. Michaels Grade School and graduated from Grand Forks Central High School. In 1939, Barbara earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Science, Literature and Art from the University of North Dakota was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority since 1937. Upon moving to California, she attended Long Beach State and UCLA. Barbara took great satisfaction in teaching Home Economics for many years in California. She married Don Maddock in 1953.

Barbara greatly treasured her times and travels with the USO and her beloved trips to the Orient, London, Scotland, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Africa. She was an insatiable reader and enjoyed continuing education programs and specialty classes offered by UND until her death.

She is survived by her siblings, Eugene (Dotty) Norman, Quincy, CA and Kathleen Fasth, Colorado; sisters-in-law, Margaret "Peg" (Mrs. Thomas) Norman, Hartland, WI and Virginia "Ginny" (Mrs. Ernest) Norman, St. Paul, MN; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews; as well as many friends who loved her dearly.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Paul, Richard, Michael, Ernest, James, Jerome and Tom ( whom recently passed 11 hours after her); sisters, Gertrude Figenshaw and Dorothy Premac; brother-in-law, Len Fasth.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 28, 2018 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with a 4:30 p.m. rosary service and a 7:00 p.m. vigil service in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Friday.

Burial: Calvary North Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
