2nd Winter Haven Man Dies; Roommate Charged With Double Murder

A second victim of a June 10 shooting has died from his gunshot wound.

WINTER HAVEN, FL – A second victim of a June 10 shooting has died from his gunshot wound.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, 38-year-old Bennie Joyner died in the hospital Tuesday, June 19.

At 6:22 p.m. on Sunday, June 10. deputies responded to a reported shooting at 1098 Carefree Cove Drive, Winter Haven, where they discovered 23-year-old Nasir Sutton dead from a single gunshot wound and Joyner critically injured with a single gunshot wound.

They had reportedly been shot by their off-and-on roommate, 36-year-old James Steven "Spooky" Williams, who fled the scene.

Detectives said Williams got into an argument with the two men, pulled out a handgun and reportedly shot both men. (See related story).

He was arrested with the handgun in his possession the following day.

An autopsy showed Joyner died from his gunshot wound.

Williams is now charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
