Jane Elias's Solo Play, DO THIS ONE THING FOR ME, Opens at The New York International Fringe Festival

The New York International Fringe Festival's production of Jane Elias's solo play, Do This One Thing for Me, directed by Tracy Bersley, opens today, Sunday, October 14, and runs through October 27.

With delicacy, humor and artistry Jane Elias charts her Long Island upbringing and her poignant relationship with her father, Beni, a Greek Jew who survived Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen. As she realizes she will not be able to grant his wish that he live to dance with his daughter at her wedding, she looks for another way to honor him and his legacy, traveling to Poland to take part in the March of the Living. An acutely observed portrait, filled with tenderness, longing and self-discovery, Do This One Thing for Me is a transcendental pas-de-deux between two generations and a daughter's love letter to her dad.

The Daily Show's Aasif Mandvi called Do This One Thing for Me "One of the best solo shows I've ever seen," and Broadway producer Manny Azenberg cheered, "It was wonderful!" Theatre Reviews described the play as "Profoundly moving, a show with such inexhaustible beauty, and a soulful, contemporary triumph," while Center on the Aisle raved, "Elias's stage presence fills the theatre."

Performances are Sunday, October 14 at 12pm, Saturday, October 20 at 8pm, Sunday, October 21 at 6:30pm, Thursday, October 25 at 4:30pm and Saturday, October 27 at 4:30pm. Jane Elias's (Playwright/Performer) plays have been developed with Naked Angels Tuesdays@9, Access Theater Writers Group, Core Artist Ensemble, Stony Brook Southampton, The Barrow Group, and FAB Women@TBG. Her play Baby Steps was a finalist for the City Theatre National Award for Short Playwriting and the Heideman Award. As an actor she most recently appeared as Audrey in As You Like It at the Theater at Woodshill, in Max Mondi's Personhood at Columbia University and the New York premiere of Arlene Hutton's Letters to Sala with The Barrow Group. Tracy Bersley (Director) specializes in movement-based theater and has choreographed and directed for Lincoln Center, the Roundabout, The Civilians, Red Bull Theatre, the Keen Company, and Clubbed Thumb, among many others. She is currently the head of movement for the Professional Actor Training Program in the Department of Dramatic Art at UNC-CH, is a member of Stage Directors and Choreographers, and is a Drama League Fellow.
