Last night, "The Voice" kicked off its first round of live performances with the Top 12 contestants leaving everything on the stage in an effort to become this season's winner.

Braiden Sunshine from Team Gwen kicked off the night with "Renegade" by Styx, fulfilling a dream to do a rock song on a big stage. He received an overwhelmingly positive reception from the coaches, who praised his "badass-ness."

"It was so much fun, and the crowd I fed off of," revealed Sunshine post-performance. "It was so much fun! It has always been a dream to do a hard rock song on a stage like that. Some people may think that I shouldn't have done it, but I thought it was awesome."

Team Adam's Amy Vachal was surprised by her coach's choice of Drake's "Hot Line Bling." The stripped-down version got off to a shaky start, but she got the song back on track. Although, coach Blake Shelton totally derailed the post-performance comments by saying girlfriend Gwen Stefani sang the song to him in a performance on "The Tonight Show."

"I thought that [the exchange] was the cutest thing," joked Vachal to HNGN after the show. "If you are a 'Voice' fan, it's like you are a big family, and I saw it with my own eyes."

Mark Hood of Team Pharrell took on the Phil Collins classic "Against All Odds." His stripped-down, controlled performance garnered unanimous praise from all four coaches. Stefani even declared, "You're one of my favorites."

"I love Gwen so much so for her to say I am one of her favorites now shows me that I'm doing something right," raved Hood after the show. "If no one else does, Gwen does, so I'm happy."

Emily Ann Roberts of Team Blake played it safe with "Blame It on Your Heart" by Patty Loveless, a song completely in her wheelhouse. "I don't know that song, but I like that song," Stefani admitted wryly.

"That was awesome for her to compliment my song like that," said Roberts. "It was a total country song. Blake might have loved it, but the other coaches might not be that into it. So that was awesome. I've been into Patty Loveless since I was in a car seat!"

Korin Bukowski, Stefani's pick last week, was given a platinum makeover for her rendition of "Titanium" by David Guetta featuring Sia. All coaches urged her to stay uncool despite Stefani turning the singer into a mini-me.

"I don't think she is turning me into her," laughed Bukowski when quizzed. "She is trying to explore different parts of myself and experiment with my look. This is the vision she and her style team had and I am very happy with it. I hope I look that good at her age — ridiculous!"

Barrett Barber of Team Blake tackled "Right Here Waiting" by Richard Marx, and was praised for being able to take on any song and perform it.

"I think that has something to do with the last decade of my life, playing frat houses and smoky bars," revealed Baber after the show. "You have to play what people like and I made a side living taking songs and making them my own, so that was high praise."

Madi Davis of Team Pharrell put a jazzy spin on the Jewel song "Who Will Save Your Soul," stepping out from behind her guitar for the performance.

"I got the song and I was afraid — it's Jewel," Davis later laughed. "I thought this is the time, I'm not going to do anything I was doing before, and try something new and have fun.... All day, I was so stressed about it, so I went onstage and had a really good time."

Team Gwen's final performance went to Jeffery Austin who's effortless rendition of "Let It Go" by James Bay proved he was a real contender this season, something not unnoticed by the coaches, who all praised his vocal prowess.

"It was all a little new for me," admitted Austin after the show. "The song fit my personality and what I like to do in a performance. My goal was to hold nothing back this week, be in the moment, and I feel that is what I did."

Shelby Brown of Team Adam brought the house down with her performance of "In Color" by Jamie Johnson. Following an emotional rehearsal, Brown delivered a strong performance, and, while criticized for her timing, was praised for her recovery.

"I'm an artist and if you make a mistake, you can't call it it a mistake," Brown told HNGN after the show. "You just have to work with what you've done. I got off time, and I made something out of it. If they hadn't said anything."

Evan McKeel of Team Pharrell rounded out his team for the night with "This Is It" by Kenny Loggins. He was praised for his energetic stage antics, with Stefani revealing: "I said 'Wow' out loud three times during that!"

"That was great, especially since the hurdle we were trying to jump over this week was based on Gwen's comments last week," revealed McKeel post-performance. "So for her to be blown away was such a great feeling for me. To take something from the coach that I almost went with, who gave me something to work on, which we did this week... For her to be impressed with it, I couldn't be happier."

Team Adam's Jordan Smith delivered a strong performance of the classic hymn "Great Is Thy Faithfulness." After taking everyone to church, Williams urged everyone to download Smith's version.

"We picked it last week before anything was going on, you know in Paris," revealed Smith later of his song choice. "Everything that has happened is terrible, so I thought that it was so timely and such a message for now and me and my heart."

Team Blake's Zach Seabaugh was given "My Love" by Little Texas to close out the night. Thanks to his matinee idol looks, he received encouraging feedback from the coaches even though his performance was subdued compared to his previous ones.

"You know, I think it is nice and has helped me a lot," Seabaugh later said when asked about being considered a heartthrob. "I talk to Blake about it. It has been a lot of fun, and tonight's song showed what I can do vocally, and I didn't thrust my hips all over the stage this week."

The first of the season's elimination rounds begins tonight. Will your favorite be going home? Find out on "The Voice" tonight at 8 p.m. on NBC.
