Prep roundup: Mead tops CV in district volleyball title match

Payton Douglass had 57 digs and Kim Wong added 16 kills and six blocks as the Mead volleyball team outlasted Central Valley in five sets in the District 8 4A title match Saturday at Central Valley.

Scores were 22-25, 25-22, 18-25, 27-25 and 15-11. Sarah Absalonson added 49 assists and three aces for the Panthers, who advanced to the title match after beating University earlier in the day.

Morgan Ness had 16 kills and Taryn Ungaro added 11 aces for the Bears.

The win gave Mead the top seed to regionals. The Panthers will host the tournament, which starts next Saturday. Central Valley is the second seed.

University claimed the district’s third and final seed to regionals with a win over Gonzaga Prep. Scores were 19-25, 25-20, 25-22 and 25-20.

The Titans’ Rachael Schlect had 14 kills, seven blocks and three aces. Sophie West led Gonzaga Prep with 17 kills.

Mt. Spokane claims 3A district title

Miahna Waters had 17 kills and Kelly Brown added 29 assists and six aces as Mt. Spokane topped Shadle Park in the District 8 3A title match at Mt. Spokane. Scores were 25-19, 19-25, 25-18 and 25-15.

Walser had 15 assists, 10 digs and three aces for the Highlanders.

The win gave the Wildcats the top seed to the regional tournament, which begins next Saturday in Richland. Shadle Park is the second seed.

Pullman tops Clarkston for 2A district title

Logan Bledsoe had 13 digs and four aces and Melissa Langerveld added nine kills as Pullman swept Clarkston 25-19, 25-14, 25-17 in the District 7 2A title match at Pullman.

The win gave the Greyhounds the top seed to the subregional tournament. Clarkston is the second seed.

Colfax wins 2B district title

Carmen Gfeller had 13 kills and two blocks and Colfax secured the top seed to regionals with a straight-set win over Northwest Christian in the District 7 2B title match at St. George’s. The Bulldogs won each set 25-18.

Hannah Allen had 10 aces and Rachel Bozlee had 10 kills for the Crusaders, who claimed the second seed to regionals.

Wilbur-Creston claimed the third seed after a 25-20, 25-18, 25-21 win over Lind-Ritzville/Sprague. The Broncos are the fourth seed.

The fifth seed went to Reardan, which beat Davenport 21-25, 25-18, 25-11, 24-26 and 15-10. Langford had 22 kills, 14 digs and two blocks for the Indians. The Gorillas are the sixth seed to regionals.

Girls soccer: Gonzaga Prep tops Ferris in district title match

Darby Doyle’s 59th-minute goal was enough to send Gonzaga Prep past Ferris 1-0 in the District 8 4A title match at Gonzaga Prep.

The win gave the Bullpups (13-2) the district’s top seed to the regional tournament. Ferris (9-7) is the second seed.

University (11-5) claimed the third seed with a 2-0 win over visiting Central Valley (10-6). Julia Adair and Kelsey Crosby scored goals for the Titans. Central Valley was eliminated.

Clarkston tops West Valley

Makinzie Packwood scored in the 33rd minute and Clarkston held on to beat West Valley (12-5) 1-0 in a District 7 2A loser-out match at West Valley.

The Bantams advance to play at East Valley (12-3) on Tuesday to determine the top two seeds to the subregional tournament.

Football: Timberlake eliminated

Payton Pinz ran for 104 yards and a touchdown and Parma topped Timberlake 24-14 in the first round of the 3A state playoffs at Spirit Lake. Brandon Hausladen ran for 88 yards and a touchdown for the Tigers (6-3), who were eliminated.

Bonners Ferry was eliminated after a 68-14 loss to host Fruitland.

In the 2A bracket, St. Maries blanked New Plymouth 35-0 and will play Aberdeen in the quarterfinals next weekend.
