MIDDLETOWN >> American Canyon pitcher Katherine Montuya was one out away from a no-hitter on Saturday afternoon when Middletown’s Elyse Brusha rolled a single up the middle in the Mustangs’ 16-0 non-league softball loss to the Wolves at Middletown High School.

The game was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

Brusha’s two-out single to center field in the bottom of the fifth broke up the no-hitter and provided Middletown with its second and final baserunner of the game. Until Brusha’s single, the only other Middletown player to reach base was Rose Duncan, who was hit by a Montuya pitch in the third inning. Neither Brusha or Duncan advanced past first base.

American Canyon led 9-0 after two innings.

Losing pitcher Olivia Glosser struck out four and walked five.
