Camping in the Park returns to Coral Reef Park, Feb. 2-3

Palmetto Bay’s fourth annual Camping in the Park & Movie Night returns to Coral Reef Park on Saturday, Feb. 2, and Sunday, Feb. 3.

The event has been popular and well attended in years past.

“This is a unique chance to experience the beautiful surroundings at Coral Reef Park all day and all night,” said Kelly Craig, Palmetto Bay public information officer. “Our goal is to provide a fun, family-friendly experience for all ages.”

On Saturday there will be a number of family-oriented activities including a night hike, kayak adventures, animal encounter, archery, arts and crafts, a campfire, telescope stargazing and more. And there’s something new.

“This year, we’re introducing a children’s fishing tournament to the festivities, so participants need to brush up their angling skills,” Craig said.

Those not interested in camping will not be required to register and may still participate in all the scheduled activities and movies. There will be a designated area for blankets and chairs for those not staying overnight.

Online registration is now open and mandatory for all overnight campers. Go to www.123formbuilder.com/form-4370813/camping-in-the-park-movie-night-2019. The fee is $5 per tent. Those interested are advised to hurry because space is limited and registration closes on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 5 p.m. Onsite registration will not be available.

“Remember to bring your s’mores, tent and camping gear and prepare for a weekend of non-stop excitement and activities at Coral Reef Park,” Craig said. “Don’t have a tent or camping gear? No worries, we have you covered.”

Nature Postings Inc. is offering a camping rental package for $40 to include one three-person tent, a lantern, mini fans, fire pit and s’mores. Rental package is available while supplies last. For reservations visit the website at www.naturepostings.com.

The featured movie is Incredibles 2 from Disney/Pixar, the sequel to the first highly successful film about a family of superheroes.

The movie is rated PG.

Events and Programs supervisor Saylin Paez said that she is still awaiting final details from several vendors, so there may be additional activities available for those attending.
