The singer–songwriter KT Tunstall, 43, shot to fame in 2005 with her single Suddenly I See. The song, which was used in the opening credits of the hit film The Devil Wears Prada, helped the Scot to win the Brit award for Best British Female Artist in 2006.

Born in Edinburgh to a Hong Kong-born exotic dancer, Kate was adopted by an academic, David Tunstall, and his teacher wife, Rosemary, and grew up in St Andrews, Fife. After studying drama and music in London, she joined a couple of indie bands before going solo and gigging solidly throughout her twenties, often for nothing but “a few pints and a shot of whisky”.
