Paso Robles, CA: Firestone Walker is charging into the new year with new twists on familiar favorites while adding a limited IPA to the fold:

Easy Jack: New Look, Lower ABV
Easy Jack is back—and it’s easier than ever.

Starting in 2019, Firestone Walker’s Easy Jack IPA is changing things up by dialing down the ABV to 4% (from 4.5%), offering the same hoppy goodness with even more drinkability. Easy Jack also now features energetic new packaging and a new 24-ounce can option.

    Luponic Distortion No. 12
Make it a clean dozen for Luponic Distortion.

Indeed, the 12th release in Firestone Walker’s IPA series is now rolling out to all Firestone Walker markets, advancing the mantra of “flavors through hops.” The lead hop in Luponic Distortion No. 12 comes from the Yakima Valley in the Pacific Northwest, offering distinct strawberry gummy notes with a touch of tropical zest. Two German hops accentuate the blend, providing notes of honeydew and tangerine.

“This is the kind of fruit bomb that Luponic Distortion fans have come to know and love,” Brynildson said.

    Firestone Lager: 24-Ounce Cans
    Bigger isn’t better…until it is.

Launched last spring in 12-ounce cans, Firestone Lager is now responding to demand and doubling down with a new 24-ounce can format for 2019. Firestone Lager is also now available in 12-ounce bottles.

    Introducing Santa Lucia IPA
New for 2019 is Santa Lucia IPA—available for the first time ever in the Lion’s Share mixed 12-pack pack.

Santa Lucia is a next-generation unfiltered West Coast IPA inspired by Firestone Walker’s flagship Union Jack IPA—but with its own unique blend of Cashmere, Azacca, Amarillo, Hallertau Blanc and El Dorado hops. The result is a fresh twist on a Firestone Walker classic, combining a bold malt foundation with a progressive hop profile.

The Lion’s Share mixed 12-pack included three additional IPAs: Union Jack, Easy Jack and Luponic Distortion.

Firestone Walker Brewing Company is a pioneering regional craft brewery founded in 1996 and located on the coast of California. Firestone Walker’s main brewery in Paso Robles produces a diverse portfolio ranging from iconic pale ales to vintage barrel-aged beers. The Barrelworks facility in Buellton makes eccentric wild ales, while the Propagator pilot brewhouse in Venice specializes in R&D beers and limited local offerings. 24 ounce cans are thing? I've seen 12oz cans, pint cans, 19.oz cans, and crowlers...24oz is a new one to me. That seems like an awkward size.

Uhhh...they're called "tall cans." They've been around for...a long time.

    Cheers

    Oh yeah...

In my defense i was thinking they'd be the same height as pint cans, just larger diameter. Definitely over-thinking it!

If I can find Easy Jack with a decent date, might be my new fishing beer.

Screw the Lager in another format, how about some fresh Pivo? And now Pivo doesn't even get included in the mixed 12 packs? The Santa Lucia is nice, but I'll buy FAR less of that than I would fresh (at this point <6 month old) Pivo.

I think Schmittes back in the late 70s were tall boys cans. Awkward size imo.

Pretty sure Budweiser, Coors, Miller, Sam Adams, etc have had 24oz cans for well over a decade.

Yesterday while grocery shopping at my local Stater Bros market I came across a Firestone Walker Lion's Share 12 pack with a bottled on date of October of 2016. :anguished:

I picked up a six pack of Union Jack just under a month in the bottle at the local grocery store. This is the second time I've had UJ the past month or so and I think the recipe has changed as it now seems more earthy, resiny without the huge bright orange/blossoms notes of yore.

Love that the lager will be available in tall boys. I drink it a lot by the pool....will need a bigger coozie now.

Easy Jack has been a favorite while golfing....will be curious if the mouthfeel changes at all with a lower ABV

I’ve had several fresh 6pk over the last few months. I’ve noticed it really gets fruity as it warms up. It’s more resinous/piney when cold, to me.

I still think it’s a Citra Amarillo bomb. Lots of sweet mango through hops and perfectly played caramel malt

If I saw that I’d buy that. Brings a tear to my eye from sneaking beers in the woods and drinking them warm.
