Oakland Appoints Chief Assistant City Attorney
Maria Bee has 25 years of experience practicing law. She will oversee all litigation matters for the city.
OAKLAND, CA — Longtime litigation attorney Maria Bee has been appointed as Oakland's Chief Assistant City Attorney, Oakland City Attorney Barbara Parker announced Friday.
Bee, with 25 years of practicing law, will oversee all litigation matters for the city.
Before her appointment took effect Oct. 2, she previously supervised the city attorney's Affirmative Litigation, Innovation and Enforcement Division.

"Maria's work in our office has been exemplary in every position she has held," Parker said in a statement. "She has consistently demonstrated her management and supervisory skills, her litigation and advisory expertise and acumen, her calm demeanor under pressure and her incisive judgment."
Bee first worked in the Oakland city attorney's office from 2000 to 2006 as a deputy city attorney prosecuting civil hate crimes lawsuits and more.

In 2006, then San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris recruited Bee to serve as chief of the Victim Services Division where she served until returning to the Oakland city attorney's office in 2014 as a supervising attorney in the Litigation Division.
