Ayrshire police officers assist in very special delivery after Kilmarnock mum went into labour
PCs Boyd and Paterson were on patrol in Kilmarnock when mum-to-be Lynne was in the final stages of labour - so they gave her a police escort to the hospital
AYRSHIRE cops assisted in a VERY special delivery last night after a pregnant woman went into labour.
Officers on patrol in Kilmarnock rushed to the aide of Kilmarnock mum-to-be, named only as Lynne, who was in the final stages of labour and 'under considerable stress'.
PCs Boyd and Paterson ensured the family made it to Ayrshire Maternity Unit by providing a police escort.
And Lynne gave birth to a healthy baby girl at the hospital at 7:50pm - two weeks early.
The adorable tot weighed 6lb 11oz and is yet to be named.
PC Boyd was invited back to the hospital today to meet the new arrival.
She said: "They say no two days are the same in policing and this incident proves it.
"We routinely stop vehicles for a variety of reasons including routine document checks - you never know what to expect and this certainly was a surprise.

"It is amazing that a routine incident can lead to helping someone welcome the miracle of a new arrival to their family.
"It was fantastic to be given the opportunity to meet the family again and learn that both mum Lynne and her beautiful baby are doing well.
"We wish them well for the future."
