Loss of newborn brought Wisin’s family closer together

Latin rapper Wisin’s family bond is stronger than ever after the 2016 death of their one-month-old daughter, who was born with a rare genetic disorder.
The reggaeton star, one half of music duo Wisin & Yandel, went public with his little girl’s diagnosis in early September (16), when he revealed his daughter Victoria was born with trisomy 13 – a condition that causes a number of birth defects, including developmental delay and issues involving nearly every organ system.
The newborn died just four weeks later, and now Wisin’s wife, Yomaira Ortiz, has admitted the tragedy has brought her family closer together.
During an appearance on Puerto Rican radio station Nueva Vida 97.7 FM, she revealed the tough loss has taught the couple “the value of the people you have by your side”.
The death of little Victoria was particularly hard on their nine-year-old daughter Yelena, who had prayed for four years to have another sibling.
At the time of Victoria’s passing, Yomaira tried to comfort Yelena by telling her, “God did not tell us how long we would be with Victoria.”
She also credited her own faith with helping to pull her through the painful period.
“I felt the comfort of God,” she said.
Wisin, real name Juan Luis Morera Luna, wed Yomaira in 2008. They are also parents to a son named Dylan.
