PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - An organization to help veterans is in the process of building a residential home in Phenix City.

Branches VA Homes for Veterans will offer a home for veterans who have little to no family support. The building will be a 10 to 14- bed residential home.

"We are building a 10-bed facility for veterans who have little to no family support. Once my husband retired from the military, I noticed that he was having a hard time trying to transition to civilian life. So, he had a strong family support and community support, but some of the people that he served with were having a hard time," says Modell McKenzie, co-owner and operator.

The new home is under construction at 1711 21st Street in the area where Cobb Hospital was previously located.

The organization will also offer employment for job seekers in the area.

Branches is part of the Community Residential Care Program (CRC) based in Tuskegee, Alabama.
