Harassment charges dropped against Chikesia Clemons

Nine-month-old harassment charges against Chikesia Clemons, the woman at the center of the recent Waffle House arrest in Saraland, Alabama, were dropped Monday morning after the victim failed to show for court.

The charges were unrelated to the Apr. 22 Waffle House arrest, in which cell phone video shows Clemons being wrestled to the floor by three white police officers. She is accused of being drunk and disorderly.

Her arrest ignited accusations of racism and police brutality within the Saraland Police Department. Rev. Al Sharpton, a New York-based civil rights activist, traveled to Alabama to give a speech and raise money for Clemons' defense fund.

Clemons is scheduled to appear on June 20 at Saraland City Court.
