Penrith Panthers utility Zach Dockar-Clay is understood to be close to joining Hull KR with coach Tim Sheens eager to bring in cover at halfback and hooker.

The 21-year-old is yet to make his NRL debut but has played plenty of NSW Cup for the Panthers and for the Parramatta Eels feeder club the Wentworthville Magpies.

Dockar-Clay is equally adept at both positions and would provide a spark for the club from either the bench or as part of the run on side.

Hull KR has a few of Dockar-Clay's former teammates such as Andrew Heffernan and Kieran Moss which would make the transition to the other side of the world a bit easier.

Dockar-Clay is also the grandson of Hull KR forward Alec Dockar, who was born and bred in the city of Hull and this allows him to be exempt on the club's overseas quota due to his grandfather's heritage.
