MANILA, Philippines – Alex Gonzaga is a TV host, actress, and author. Now, she’s testing her skills as a singer.

Recently, Alex launched I am Alex G, her film album under Star Music.

According to Alex, the album is very much like her – fun, yet fierce.

When asked about her singing style compared to sister Toni, Alex joked: “Yung boses ko po siguro mas payat lang sa ate (Toni) ko.” (I guess my voice is a little thinner than my sister (Toni).)

But on a serious note, Alex said that she has a long way to go with regard to singing. Asked about being compared to Toni and Sarah Geronimo, Alex said: “May mga sarili na po silang career sa singing na parang malayong-malayo pa po dahil nagsisimula pa lang ako.” (They already have great careers in singing, that’s a bit far off yet for me, because I am only just beginning.)

For her musical influences, Alex said she is a big fan of Beyonce, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato, and Selena Gomez. She also looks up to her sister Toni, Sarah G, and Lea Salonga.

I am Alex G contains 6 songs, with the carrier single “Panaginip Lamang” – she sang a snippet during the launch.

The other songs are: “Di Ko Akalain,” “Alam Mo Na Yan,” “Boyfriend,” which she wrote the lyrics with music by Rox Santos, “Break Na Tayo,” which she co-wrote with sister Toni and Jonathan Manalo, and “Goodbye Kiss.”

Jonathan Manalo, the album’s producer, said that Toni and Alex are definitely different when it comes to singing.

Kung si Toni can tackle powerful ballads, si Alex siya yung pop star, yung fan songs, yung easy to sing-along with, mas madaling kantahin. Iyon yung difference nilang dalawa.” he said. (If Toni can tackle powerful ballads, Alex is the one who is more like a pop star, [she can sing] the fan songs, the ones that are easy to sing along to, that’s the difference between the two.)

Aside from her album, Alex is busy promoting her new show Inday Bote alongside Matteo Guidicelli and Kean Cipriano. –Rappler.com
