Louise Allen, 104
ANACONDA — Louise Elizda Martin Allen died Feb. 26 in Community Nursing Home of Anaconda.
She was born Oct. 20, 1897, to French parents, Joseph M. Martin and Zelia White Martin in Lisbon, N.D. She was raised in Lisbon and, while in high school, she played basketball where her team won the championship. Upon graduation from high school, she traveled to Washington, D.C. She then worked at the U.S. Treasury Department, where she received roses from the White House Rose Garden.
Wanting to explore the West, she and her sister went to Boise. She worked as a governess for J.B. Falks. She married William W. Allen on Feb. 5, 1923, in Payette, Idaho. Three children were born in Boise, Bill, Mary and Chuck. Later they moved to Corta Madera, Calif. Their second daughter, Zeze, was born. Later they moved to San Francisco, where their third son, Don, was born. During the Depression they moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho, where they lived until 1942 and where their youngest son, Bob, was born. During the war years they moved back to California and then to Portland, Ore., where she worked building engines for the war effort. Later they moved back to California, and in the summer of 1945 moved to Anaconda, where she has resided since. She worked for St. Ann's Hospital from the 1950s until she retired in 1971. After retirement she took care of people in their homes, enjoyed traveling and spending time with her fami ly.
She is survived and missed by her children, Mary Louise Briggs, Anaconda, Charles Franklin and his wife Phyllis Allen, Anacortes, Wash., Zelia Marie Collins, Anaconda, Donald Leroy and his wife Carol Allen, Tillamook, Ore., Robert Ripley and his wife Liz Allen of Chattanooga, Tenn.; niece, Dolores Byram and her husband Dayton of Fargo. N.D. She had 22 grand children and spouses, Peggy Morgan, Becky SchorzimanArtz, Larry and Barbara Briggs, Connie and Martin Soto, Joan and Ken Ornelas, Kathy and Jerry Moses, Mary and Allen Tafelmeyer, Joe Briggs, Linda Briggs, David and Danetta Briggs, Phyllis and Darryl Anderson, Peter Briggs, Debbie and Tom Blaz, Bill and Colleen Allen, Charlie and Debby Allen, Teri and Chris Knox, Mike and Nancy Allen, Gary and Susan Allen, Jim and Diane Allen, Bob and Meko Allen, Marty Allen, Jeff and Susan Allen; 49 great-grandchildren; 45 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Phil, Theodore, infant Joseph; four sisters, Emma Leonard, Alma Nadeau, Alyce Chelly, Marie; husband, William W. Sr.; son, William W. Jr.; daughter-inlaw, Marian Allen Artz; sonsin-law, Heber “ B” Briggs and Frank “ Toots” Collins; and grandson, John Allen.
Friends may call at 4 p.m. Friday in the Longfellow Finnegan Funeral Home, fol lowed by the parish vigil ser vice at 7 p.m. The funeral begins at 10:15 a.m. Saturday and proceeds to St. Peter Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Jack Carver, 86
Jack Carver died Friday in Tucson, Ariz.
He was born in Butte on July 16, 1915, to Charles Carver and Mary Raferty Carver. He graduated from the University of Montana in 1939, and then began a long career in social work. He was the director of the Department of Rehabilitation for the state of Montana, and received numerous awards, including the prestigious Dr. Louis W. Allard Award for service to the handicapped.
He married Eileen Connelly in 1944 and they had 57 wonderful years together. Jack and Eileen lived in Helena until his retirement in 1977, then spent summers in Helena and winters in Arizona. In 1991 they moved to Tucson full time.
Jack is survived by his children, John Carver and Kay Carver Perret; four grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Friday in Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in Tucson.
Ronald Haller, 66
MISSOULA — Ronald J. Haller died Sunday while vis iting family in Missoula.
He was born Jan. 1, 1936, in Butte to Frances and J.W.C. Haller. He attended Butte schools and graduated from Montana State University in 1958.
He married L. Lynn Evenskaas in 1956; they moved to Great Falls in 1958. Ron worked for Mutual Benefit Life Insurance from 1958 to 1962. He worked for Wm. S. Merrill Pharmaceutical for three years. In 1965, Ron joined J.M. Dain Inc. and worked as a stockbroker until January 1978. Ron and Lynn pur chased Flathead Homes and moved to Kalispell where they remained in business until June 1986. He spent the last 15 years in Seattle where he has worked with Stephens Ministry, directing workshops for grief counseling and cri sis management.
Ron enjoyed skiing, golf and was a devoted Mariners fan. Most of all, he loved his family. His greatest joy was the time he spent with his wife, sons and grandsons.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lynn; sons, David and his wife Robin of Bothell, Wash., Jeffery and his wife Wendy of Missoula; grand sons, Brian, Eric, Travis, Max and Jack; brothers, John of Dallas, Texas, and Robert of Bellevue, Wash.
His was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Bill, and his son, Douglas. “ Papa, we will miss you.”
Memorials: American Heart Association or the Cancer Foundation.

Anna Moravec, 54
WHITEHALL — Anna Jo Moravec died Friday in Butte.
Anna was loving, caring and the most gener ous person one could ever meet. She loved crocheting, gardening, playing computer games, and spending time with the family. She also had a passion for butterflies and ladybugs. She loved the song, “ Music Box Dancer.”
Anna went to school in Butte, where she met Ronald O. Moravec; they were mar ried Nov. 8, 1965. In 1999 she moved to Whitehall to be clos er to her family. She belonged to the Jehovah's Witnesses congregation in Twin Bridges.
Survivors included her husband of 36 years, Ronald O. Moravec; son, Ronald L. Moravec; daughters, Rondella Moravec, Anna Stricklin; grandchildren, Timmy Alger, Maryssa Moravec, Sarek Moravec, Karina Stricklin, Darold Stricklin, Shamalana Moravec; mother, Lynn Bailey; sisters, Maxine Bailey, Carol Candelaria, Jewel Slack, June Cotterel, Eunice Meeks; brothers, Don and Cecil Bailey.
She was preceded in death by father Lenard Bailey; brothers, Leo, Wesley and Eldredge Bailey.
Viewing will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday with funeral services at 1 p.m. Wednesday, both in Scott Funeral Home, Whitehall, with burial in Whitehall Cemetery.
Wayne Smith Jr., 76
ANACONDA — Clifford Wayne Smith Jr. of Anaconda died Monday morning.
He was born April 1, 1925, in Driggs, Idaho, to Clifford William Smith and Veldon G. Liddiard. He moved to Anaconda in 1927. He had one sis ter and three broth ers.
In June of 1943, he enlisted in the Navy Seabees. During World War II, while stationed in Okinawa, he was in a John Wayne movie filmed there, “ The Fighting Seabees.” He married Violet E. Larson Jan. 25, 1946, had four chil dren, and owned Wayne's Floor Covering for 50 years.
Kind, loving, giving and helpful, he was a well-known, well-loved family man, busi ness owner, World War II vet eran, member of the American Legion, Rotary Club past president, Elks Club and a 75-year resident of this community he loved and served. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Don and Marvin Smith.
He in survived by his wife, Violet of Anaconda; daughters and son-in-law, Jacqueline Smith, Kristin and Kerry Petronek of Las Vegas, Teri Smith; son and daughter-inlaw, Clifford Duane and Kathie Smith, sister and brother-in-law, Vivian and Leonard Gagnon, all of Anaconda; brother, Dell Smith of East Missoula; grandchil dren, Ruth Ann and Tony Carlton, Dee Dee and Dan Kiely, Roy and Jody Harrington, Carrie and Chad Buzek, Kyler Petronek, Rashuna and Avala Kovacich and Morgan and Kramer Smith; six great-grandchil dren and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
There will be no wake or visitation. A memorial service in honor of Wayne's life will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Longfellow Finnegan Funeral Home with Pastor Ted Hamann officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery with military honors.
