A manhunt for a fugitive who took off during a traffic stop Tuesday in Mount Hope has come to an end.

Fayette deputies arrested Darnell Mitchell Tuesday evening.

Deputies say Mitchell had active warrants for several crimes in Kanawha, Fayette and Raleigh Counties. Those crimes included burglary, drug charges, and numerous felony and misdemeanor counts of fleeing from police in vehicles.

Deputies say Mitchell led them on a chase through the woods Wednesday afternoon. They believed he was armed, but had to call the search off around 3 p.m..

Mitchell was later spotted in the Kilsyth area and deputies tracked him into a Raleigh County mine equipment dealership. Deputies said he continued to taunt officers, daring them to shoot him.

Mitchell was eventually taken into custody and claimed he was high on drugs when he took off.
