Tornado Watch Issued For Sullivan County Tuesday

The National Weather Service is tracking severe thunderstorms moving at 50 mph.

SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — The National Weather Service issued a Tornado Watch for Sullivan County Tuesday afternoon.

At 300 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near White Sulphur Springs to near Rutledgedale to near Forest City. Movement was east at 50 mph.

Winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible with these storms.

Strong thunderstorms will be near...

  • Parksville and Hankins around 305 PM EDT.
  • Callicoon and Hortonville around 310 PM EDT.
  • Honesdale and Jeffersonville around 315 PM EDT.
  • Grahamsville around 320 PM EDT.
  • White Sulphur Springs and Swan Lake around 325 PM EDT.
  • Liberty and Damascus around 330 PM EDT.
  • Fallsburg and Neversink around 335 PM EDT.
  • Bethel and Woodridge around 340 PM EDT.

The National Weather Service warned:

  • Heavy rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may lead to minor flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
  • Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
  • These storms may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
