Sauk Rapids murderer sentenced for earlier shooting

ST. CLOUD — A St. Cloud man convicted of murder in a Sauk Rapids shooting was sentenced last week for an earlier shooting. 

William Demont White, Jr., 22,  pleaded guilty July 10 to shooting and injuring a man prior to the Sauk Rapids shooting, which left one dead and another injured. 

White was sentenced at the same time to three years and nine months in prison for one felony count of second-degree, dangerous weapon firearm assault.

The charge stemmed from an incident July 26, 2017 in the 400 block of Ninth Avenue North. A witness reported hearing gunshots and seeing two men run in different directions from where the shots were heard.

A camera captured the shooting, and police identified the suspect in a video and still photos as White. Officers found two shell casings in the area. 

White was convicted of murder in the 2018 Sauk Rapids shooting that killed Joe Ditthidet of Sauk Rapids and wounded Nathan Phrachomphonh, also of Sauk Rapids. He was sentenced to 32 years in prison for the Sauk Rapids shooting and will serve both counts concurrently.
