A group of men were allegedly caught on CCTV as they 'stole' a Christmas tree - said to be worth a whopping £700 - from the entrance of a restaurant.

The incident allegedly took place at 2.48am on Sunday, December 11, at the L'Autre Pied in Marylebone, a French eatery that is popular with celebs.

David Moore, the owner of the restaurant said he was gutted that the Christmas tree has been taken and has now posted his own footage on the restaurant's Facebook page.

He is now appealing to anyone who might have information about the tree's whereabouts and is even offering at reward for its safe return.

The tree went missing in the early hours of Sunday morning

In the footage, one man can be seen taking the lights off the tree before he disappears out of view.

Moments later, the tree is gone, and a second man appears on the camera. He appears to be carrying the tree away.

Mr Moore, 47, told the London Evening Standard: "I'm so gutted someone has taken it.

"I am not sure if I can face spending another £700 on a new one - that is how much it cost with all the lights and the baubles and decorations [...] but I am offering a reward."

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: "We are aware of this incident and our officers are currently looking into it.

"No arrests have been made."

An official appeal has not yet been launched by police.
