Chris Rock’s Rep Refutes Oscars Producer’s Comments

A rep for Academy Awards host Chris Rock indicated the ceremony’s producer spoke too soon when he said Rock is rewriting his material for Oscars night.

ABC News quotes Rock’s rep saying: “Regarding Reggie Hudlin’s comments about Chris Rock’s Oscar hosting duties, neither he nor anyone else speaks for Chris. Chris has made no decisions about the content of the show. All will be revealed on February 28th. We will not comment further on this.”

Interest in what Rock is planning has been fueled by the controversy over a lack of diversity among Oscar nominees. Rock, who earlier this month called the Oscars “the white BET Awards,” has been under pressure from some insiders to join a boycott in response to the controversy, while others have expressed eagerness to hear how the outspoken comedian will handle the topic on a high-profile stage.

The 88th Academy Awards will air live Feb. 28 on ABC.
