Peveto 4th, Helm 7th in 4A State 3,200-meters

AUSTIN — Little Cypress-Mauriceville junior Eli Peveto almost snagged a medal at the Class 4A State Track & Field Championships at the University of Texas Friday morning as he finished fourth in the Class 4A Boys 3,200 meters.

Peveto covered the track in 9:58.41 to earn a solid fourth-place finish.

San Elizario’s Edwin Gomez took first-place with a time of 9:38.79 in the field of nine. Melissa’s Judson Greer nabbed second with a 9:47.64 and Progreso’s Everardo Esparza was third with a 9:47.94.

Peveto will look to shine again Saturday when he runs the 1,600 meters at 2:55 p.m.

Orangefield distance standout Maddison Helm wrapped up a tremendous sophomore campaign after finishing seventh in the Class 4A Girls 3,200 meters Friday morning.

Helm finished with a time of 12:05.33. Bandera’s Alia Henderson won the event in 11:21.79. Midlothian Heritage’s Renee Elliott was second with a 11:23.82 and La Feria’s Dariana Vasquez was third with a 11:31.77.
